What is HDTV?
p>
HDTV is the biggest revolution in TV since colour took over from black and white.
High-definition television (HDTV) offers picture quality up to 9 times better than standard television. At the moment there are a handful of channels broadcasting in HD in Canada but that number is growing all the time.
A standard television set works with an analog signal that puts about 480 lines of information on the television screen. Each line is comprised of about 700 dots. This provides a resolution of about 345,000 pixels. HDTV screens have 1,080 lines of information with up to 1,920 dots, or more than 2 million pixels. There is about nine times more information. More information means better picture quality: less distortion, crisper lines, truer colours. You'll really notice the improvement on shows with intense lighting, lots of dark shadowy scenes, or sports events where the action is fast.
To get HDTV you need:
1. A HD capable television
2. A HD capable DCT from CityWest
3. To be watching a HD channel (not all channels are broadcast in HD)
Once you see HDTV, you will be amazed. Drop by our office to see the difference for yourself!
