PRINCE RUPERT – There was a time when cars filled drive-in movie lots on hot summer nights across the country, and people watched Hollywood blockbusters from the comfort of their own vehicles.
And this summer, CityWest will bring that experience to Prince Rupert.
On Tuesday, August 4, the parking lot at the Civic Centre will be transformed into a drive-in movie venue; at around 9:30 p.m., the lights will go up on a giant screen for a viewing of Onward, a movie by Pixar Animation Studios.
“We picked the movie partly because of its title,” said Chris Armstrong, Director of Marketing with CityWest. “We think ‘Onward’ is the right attitude as we continue to battle successfully through this pandemic. And, it’s a great movie for the family!”
Onward tells the story of two elves who live alongside centaurs, fairies and dragons, in a world where magic was once real. The elves go on a noble quest to rekindle a little bit of that magic, and learn something about themselves along the way. The movie was released in February 2020, and grossed over $100 million worldwide.
Due to provincial guidelines, only 50 cars will be allowed in the viewing area for the event - CityWest held a draw for the tickets, and the winners will be contacted this week. The cost of admission is a donation of cash or non-perishable items to the food bank.
“We know we can still have a good time while abiding by the boundaries of social distancing, and we’re proud to bring this experience to the community,” said Armstrong.
CityWest would also like to thank the City of Prince Rupert for their help in organizing the event.
