PRINCE RUPERT – Today CityWest is proud to announce a $1 million contribution to the City of Prince Rupert.

Last week, Prince Rupert City Council announced a 15.7% proposed increase to Prince Rupert property taxes. CityWest’s $1 million commitment is intended to bring some financial relief to the City’s stretched operational budget.

“CityWest has always been an active and committed employer and member of the Prince Rupert community and we plan to continue participating in initiatives that support residents.” said Stefan Woloszyn, CEO of CityWest. “For over 110 years, we have always been fully committed to our community. This is the right thing to do.”

“We are beyond happy to see CityWest step up to help our citizens,” said Herb Pond, Mayor of Prince Rupert. “This financial contribution will help every homeowner in Prince Rupert, while we work to make crucial upgrades to our city. CityWest has, and always will be, a key partner to the City of Prince Rupert.”

"The CityWest Board of Directors is pleased to provide financial support to the City of Prince Rupert in their time of need. As part of the family that works hard for the city's wellbeing, we are happy to contribute our part," said Dr. Bob Long, Chair of CityWest’s Board of Directors.

The distribution will take place in two installments, providing property tax relief over the next two years to property owners in Prince Rupert.

Since it spun into a corporation in 2005, CityWest has provided the City of Prince Rupert with $10 million in dividends and distribution payments, as well as over $2 million in local taxes and levies. Today’s announcement reaffirms CityWest’s commitment to the city of Prince Rupert, its residents, its continued growth as a city, and as one of its employers.
