PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. — CityWest is thrilled to announce a renewed, three-year commitment to its hometown, pledging to bring high-speed fibre to every remaining corner of Prince Rupert. The company is actively expanding fibre infrastructure within the city and is doubling down on its long-term investment in the community where it all began, while also answering resident questions about why fibre construction has recently been so visible in other regions of British Columbia.
Much of the fibre construction currently taking place outside Prince Rupert is funded through federal and provincial government programs specifically designed to connect underserved rural and coastal communities across B.C. These programs, including the Universal Broadband Fund and the Connected Coast project, carry strict geographic requirements, eligibility criteria, and infrastructure timelines that determine where work takes place.
Because these programs operate on fixed, time-limited construction windows, CityWest made the deliberate decision to deploy its people and resources to seize these once-in-a-generation opportunities — opportunities that, had they been missed, would have been lost for good. That choice meant prioritizing these builds in the near term over other planned capital work, but it allowed CityWest to capture funding and infrastructure that dramatically strengthen the regional network Prince Rupert anchors. An investment that ultimately comes home to the community where the company was founded.
CityWest is also making an exciting new commitment to its home community: over the next three years, the company will extend fibre to the remaining areas of Prince Rupert that are not yet connected, completing roughly one-third of that work each year. This means the small minority of neighbourhoods still without fibre will be brought online on a clear, predictable timeline, ensuring every part of Prince Rupert shares the benefits of a modern, high-speed network.

This community helped build CityWest, and we’re committed to making sure the benefits of our growth continue to come back home through local investment and infrastructure improvements,” said Stefan Woloszyn, chief executive officer of CityWest.
Fibre infrastructure projects in northern and coastal environments involve significant complexity. Geography, permitting requirements, weather windows, and construction sequencing all affect how quickly work can progress. CityWest says it is committed to completing the work properly and building infrastructure that will serve Prince Rupert for decades.
The company has committed to continuing to share updates with residents as projects progress, including information about which areas of Prince Rupert are scheduled for future construction and what timelines residents can expect.
