CityWest announces $10,000 donation to McKay Street Park Playground
Posted: February 14, 2018
PRINCE RUPERT – At the official launch of fibre-to-the-home services on February 9th, CityWest announced that they would be donating $10,000 to the McKay Street Park Playground project. Today, at a ceremony at the park itself, they made it official.
“We’re happy to make this donation, because we feel that this project will benefit the community,” said Chris Marett, CEO of CityWest. “It also aligns with our philanthropic efforts to help people in the North do great things.”
CityWest jumped to action after seeing a Facebook post from Transition Prince Rupert, which is handling the funding and logistics for the construction of the park.
Transition Prince Rupert originally learned in June 2017 that it had received $100,000 in funding from BCAA in its “Play Here” contest, which targeted play areas in B.C. that were in need of rejuvenation. But unanticipated costs came up after the land was cleared and surveyed.
“It was fantastic to get a phone call from CityWest, saying they were interested in helping out with this project,” said Veronika Stewart, Vice President of Transition Prince Rupert. “It definitely relieved some of the financial stress.”
The money will go towards more cleanup and filling in of the site. Construction on the park is scheduled to begin in March 2018. For more information on how to donate, visit Transition Prince Rupert’s Go Fund Me page here.
