CityWest Provides Update on fibre-to-the-home Build in Prince Rupert

PRINCE RUPERT – Earlier this year, Tyler Portelance became one of the first customers to be installed with CityWest’s new fibre-to-the-home services in Prince Rupert. When he made the switch, he said he noticed some small differences.
“We didn’t have many issues before getting fibre, but we have seen a difference with not being bogged down with multiple devices on our home network,” he said. “And the install process was great – the tech was very professional, and he even played with my kids when they were bugging him.”
Portelance is not the only one getting an improved customer experience. Since the $10 million project launched in February of this year, over 150 customers have been hooked up with fibre services, bringing them an improved experience with their Internet, TV, and phone services.
As part of the progress report, CityWest also released a map showing what has been completed, and what will be finished later this year. Phase 1 is ready now, and Phase 2 will be ready for installs on June 18. The map can be found here.
“That CityWest is undertaking such a tremendous project in our own backyard really shows how far the company has come,” said Bart Kuntz, Vice President of the Outside Plant at CityWest. “I’m proud to see the work that the company has undertaken to improve the experience for customers in Prince Rupert.”
The fibre build was announced in May 2017, and it was officially launched in February 2018. The entire town will be built out with fibre within the next 3-5 years.
“I’m very proud to be part of a company that has worked so hard to ensure this project is meeting our deadlines,” said Kuntz. “From the outside crew to the back office, there’s a lot of work to be done, and we’re getting it done at a phenomenal rate.”
And if Portelance’s experiences are any indication, CityWest is on the right track with its customers.“I’m surprised by how quick it’s rolling out, and how in the next few years, everyone in town will have it,” said Portelance. “That’s pretty fantastic.”
