CityWest, Strathcona Regional District launch Connected Coast website

Posted: May 03, 2018

PRINCE RUPERT - CityWest and Strathcona Regional District, who are partners in the Connected Coast subsea fibre project, today launched a website that will contain information related to the project, including stories of how technology will benefit communities up and down the coast.

The website,, officially launched today.

“We’re proud to have a website dedicated to this important project,” said Victoria Smith, Manager of Strategic Initiatives at the Strathcona Regional District. “It will be helpful as a point of information for all interested stakeholders, and it will help us tell the story of how this project will benefit people who live up and down the coast of B.C.”

The Connected Coast project is a major infrastructure endeavour that will see an undersea fibre-optic cable run from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island, with a leg west to Haida Gwaii. The entire project will connect 154 communities. The fibre will provide wholesale bandwidth services to these communities, and will improve the online experience for schools, hospitals, libraries, and businesses. It will also allow for any entrepreneurial service providers to link up with the fibre and provide “last mile” services to businesses and residents in the communities.

The website will be a living document, providing updates to the project as time goes on, and will introduce the various communities to the capabilities of the new technology. The website will also be a repository of photographic and textual materials related to the project, which will be available to access for many years to come.

“In the end, we see the website as an historical document that will provide a first-hand perspective on this tremendous undertaking,” said Donovan Dias, Vice President of Sales & Project Management. “We’re happy that we can show them the progress of Connected Coast through the website.”

I sincerely appreciate your technician for taking the time on the long weekend to provide assistance and make the house call to my folks. They were so happy to have the TV working again and my Dad was very impressed with the service the tech provided Saturday morning. My confidence in CityWest has been restored, and I would not hesitate to recommend the services of CityWest. I cannot state enough times my sincerest appreciation for the "over the top" service he provided my parents this weekend.
