“Our main benefit, that we praise about to everyone since switching to CityWest's new services, is how much faster the Internet is. Before we couldn't have more than one person on, watching either Netflix, playing a game or scrolling through Facebook. We now have 4 Internet users in our household that use the Internet all at once at times with an impressive speed still! I have nothing but good things to say about how you guys have treated us as customers.”

Province of B.C. Recognizes CityWest with Technology Award
Posted: June 15, 2018
PRINCE RUPERT – CityWest was honoured to be presented with one of the Premier’s Innovation and Excellence Awards, which celebrates work undertaken across the B.C. government.
Winning in the Organization Excellence category, CityWest was recognized for its participation in the “K-12 Public School Next Generation Network” project, which involved building a layer-3 MPLS-based IP VPN network, and a layer-2 Ethernet WAN network for school districts in Prince Rupert and Terrace. The project helped the Ministry of Education build a new network that allowed them to deliver education services in new and improved ways.
“We appreciated CityWest’s agility, dedication and commitment throughout the Next Generation Network project,” said James Shypitka, Executive Director at the Ministry of Education. “Together we have been able to improve student and teacher access within schools and throughout the world over the Internet.”
The Next Generation Network also implemented other capabilities around network monitoring and enhanced security, which will support learning opportunities for students and improve the needs of teachers and district IT personnel.
“The redesigned network is much faster, which improves daily classroom instruction,” said Andrew Samoil, Director of Instruction – Educational Innovation at School District 52. “We are experiencing tremendous growth in digital learning resources that help make our classrooms engaging and exciting. CityWest plays a pivotal part in ensuring students have dependable access to these resources.”
As its name implies, the Next Generation Network will also give the school district the capabilities for any future improvements it wants to undertake in its system.
“Essentially, the new network paves the way for local schools to not only benefit today from an advanced network, but also be in a position to take advantage of future capabilities and trends,” said Donovan Dias, Vice President, Sales & Project Management at CityWest. “This infrastructure will be able to support the future direction of education delivery and access to content.”
“Our team is second-to-none when it comes to work of this nature,” said Ed Cagara, Chief Technology Officer at CityWest. “I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in this network redesign, which has already proven to be a huge asset to the school districts and the company.”
